At UNC-CH I teach the following undergraduate courses: WGST 101: Introduction to Women’s & Gender Studies, WGST/ANTH 278: Women in Science,  WGST/PSYC 573: Psychology of Women & Gender, and WGST 695: Principles of Feminist Inquiry.

Research:
I am a developmental psychologist whose research uses feminist intersectional methods to examine gender development, emotion, identity, and STEM attitudes and achievement. My work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. Much of my research examines how the internalization of gender and ethnic stereotypes shape self-conscious affect about our achievement, our bodies, and our selves. Current projects are focused on eliminating achievement gaps, particularly for first-generation college students and students of color, and in conducting meta-analyses of adaptive learning technologies and simulations in STEM courses.

I am also interested in expanding the methodological repertoire within feminist research. One project aims to delineate the multidimensional nature of gender equality and evaluated the diverse measures of nation-level gender equality. In another, we synthesized the diverse, and sometimes disparate, writings on intersectionality to make the critical theory accessible and promote rigorous and earnest applications of it in research using quantitative methods. I am also co-author of the book, The Psychology of Women and Gender: Half the Human Experience +, 10th Ed., Sage, 2021, with Janet Hyde.

I am a Fellow of the American Psychological Association through Division 35: Society for the Psychology of Women, and a member of Division 44: Society for the Psychological Study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues.
