As we celebrate 30 years of tremendous growth and expansion, we want to thank our alumni, patrons, and friends of the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies who have generously supported undergraduate students, public lectures, innovative teaching, and faculty research and development. Below are just a few of the achievements made possible by this support.

What began as a small program with no permanent faculty has developed into a full-fledged department, boasting a interdisciplinary group of nine faculty members, each with their own specialties and fields of interest. We have been able to ensure faculty diversity through our participation in the College of Arts and Sciences Minority Post-doctoral Program.

As a result of this growth, our course catalogue has expanded, and our offerings are as unique as faculty members teaching them. The expertise they have gained through a variety of research endeavors has been channeled into several new and innovative classes for our students.

The Women and Science Program at UNC-Chapel Hill, established in 1993, is now housed in Women’s Studies and directed by Dr. Silvia Tomášková, professor of Women's and Gender Studies and Anthropology.

In the past, generous donor gifts established the Mary Turner Lane Award for Undergraduate Research, the Druscilla French Distinguished Professor of Women’s Studies, and have provided funds for faculty professional development.

Thanks to your generous support Women’s and Gender  Studies at Carolina has grown and flourished. Please help us meet the challenge of maintaining our first-rate program committed to the study of women and gender in the United States and around the globe.

Your gift may go toward supporting undergraduate research and enhancing our educational mission, faculty travel to archives, libraries, and museums, or to retaining and recruiting the world-class faculty for which UNC is renowned.
